Restored backup of site, now cannot access Wordpress backend

What is the name of the domain?

What is the error number?

N/A

What is the error message?

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

What is the issue you’re encountering

When I restored a previous backup via Updraft Plus, my site returned to its 2020 version and now I cannot login on WordPress. Bluehost told me to contact Cloudflare to update A records.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I have asked Bluehost (my hosting service) for help. These are their instructions:
A record is not pointing to Bluehost, Could you please conatct nameserver provider: cloudflare.com.
And ask them to update: Type>>A records
Host records: @ OR DOMAIN name
points to: 162.241.24.113

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

Nameservers

Have you verified that the backup you restored is from 2024 and not from 2020?

That is because the DNS record is proxied. You can change it to DNS-Only, but it is very unlikely this would have any effect on the version of your site that is displayed.

I can’t access my wp-admin at all, so I can’t verify anything.

That is because the DNS record is proxied. You can change it to DNS-Only, but it is very unlikely this would have any effect on the version of your site that is displayed.

Per Bluehost’s instructions, I tried adding an @ record:

Type: A
Record: @
Value: 162.241.24.113
TTL: 2 hours.

However, it gave me an error: A record with the same settings already exists. (Code: 81058). I don’t see any other record with @ on the list though.

Additional instructions from Bluehost:

please remove these IP addresses as A record: 104.21.32.225 and 172.67.156.30

@ is a shortcut for your domain. As soon as you hit save, it is replaced by tokyopast3.com.

I mean, it’s the obvious cause of your problems. I can only assume that some older plugins are not compatible with new PHP versions or something like that. Can you create a new Wordpress site somewhere and see your backup versions there?
