Restore website from backup that was deleted?

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

Just logged in to check a record and the site in the account was gone. I went to check audit and it said I deleted it. I absolutely did NOT delete it. I readded the site but can’t get access to the registrar to repoint since the new DNS for the CF account is differnet. Is there as a way to restore the full account as it was? This just happened 15 minutes ago. I have used CF for MANY years, I have NEVER seen a site magically just delete itself until now - it’s disturbing. I just want to restore what was previously there. Appreciate any help!

I think you’re in the wrong account. I see the website was deleted about a month ago and purged from the account you are using here. I suspect that is because the nameservers were never set to the two in the account you are using here.

I see the deleted domain has nameservers today of

alan.ns.cloudflare.com
nelly.ns.cloudflare.com

And the name servers assigned to the account you are using here are

audrey.ns.cloudflare.com
neil.ns.cloudflare.com

That’s a very good indicator of multiple accounts.

No, there is not.

But, you can add it to the account you are using here and then contact the registrar namecheap and ask them to change the nameservers to the two you will see here once the site is added, https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/:zone/dns

You can also see if you can identify the account that holds the domain. The only way you’ll be able to gain access to the account with the active domain is by having access to the email address of the account. I suspect the second link is where you should start.

These links may help, but they only work when logged out

If you know the email: https://dash.cloudflare.com/forgot-password
If you don’t know the email: https://dash.cloudflare.com/forgot-email

Thanks so much for the reply. I DO have a couple of accounts and I am just writing from this one as it’s my main one. It was in fact in the other account. I absolutely did NOT delete it. The site was just gone and I see that it was deleted, but nobody with access deleted it. It just deleted on it’s own - which is disturbing. How in the world would a site be deleted on it’s own? I have been using Cloudlfare for many years, never seen this happen before.

Sorry for the issues you’re encountering

In looking at whois there were changes recently

Updated Date: 2024-10-04T20:53:27.23Z
Creation Date: 2023-09-07T00:59:20.00Z
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2025-09-07T00:59:20.00Z

I suspect the domain expired on 9/7/24, there was a change on 10/4/24 I suspect that is when it was added or readded.

Can you add it to the account you are using here and then contact the registrar namecheap and ask them to change the nameservers to the two you will see here once the site is added, https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/:zone/dns. I suspect those will be

audrey.ns.cloudflare.com
neil.ns.cloudflare.com

That happens when domains expire and nameservers revent. The audit log will show deleted for a week or so and if the namesevers do not change back, the domain is purged. https://securitytrails.com/ history verifies this as the domain shows as having no nameservers assigned for about one month from 9/7 to 10/7/
