I have a domain on Namesilo, using Cloudflare’s name servers, pointing to to my website on 000webhost at thehomingproject.000webhostapp.com. Using CName Cloudflare won’t resolve directly to my website, but instead loads a catchall page at 000webhost. I can’t use A because I can’t determine an IPv4. Any ideas what is going on here?
I know Registrar:Namesilo → Namesrv: Cloudflare → Website: 000webhost is a round about route, but should be workable shouldn’t it?
If not already done, try setting the CNAME to “DNS only”. If that doesn’t work then you probably need to set 000webhost to accept connections for your domain name.
A catchall page would likely be shown if connecting to one of their servers and passing a hostname they don’t know should be served.
I figured it out. 000webhost has starter videos including on that shows how to set up CName pointing to 000webhost.
So, watch that short video, and then read these step-by-step instructions on how to set up CName from Cloudflare pointing to your xxxx.webhostapp.com website. Read and watch carefully. There are a couple of details you need to pay attention to. I hope this helps! It took me a couple of days to work this out until I found these links. 000webhost video tutorials - Tutorials - 000webhost forum
Basically you Set CName on Cloudflare but leave the little orange cloud turned off, temporarily, Then you go to 000WebHost into the Parked domains area, choose connect a domain, choose “point domain”, then type your domain in. Click save and let it rest for a minute, then go back to Cloudflare and you can turn on your little orange cloud and get SSL etc. Also, add two CName records for your domain in Cloudflare. One with @ and the other with www and that way you get your domain to work with no www, and with www. Enjoy!
