REDIRECT: changed my old online store url to new url cant create a redirect url

changed my old Big Commerce online store url to new url on my domain and cant create a cname for forwarding old online store url “https://lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com” to new online store url “https://store.containerauthority.com”.

Contacted Big Commerce and they could answer to contact Cloudflare so I am stuck loosing the many customers that have the old online taking to a pop up This site can’t be reached - Check if there is a typo in lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com.

Please assist if someone has solution.

I assume you are actually trying to go in the opposite direction, that is point from your domain that is in Cloudflare to Big Commerce.

Your Cloudflare DNS records seem to be set up to do this…
https://cf.sjr.org.uk/tools/check?bac883867b6b461d8cdcb4d6c7be0c0c#dns
…and it seems to be working for me.

What do you see when trying to visit store.containerauthority.com?

Yes store.containerauthority.com is working.

The issue I am having is all customers that have booked mark the online store from
https://lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com can no longer reach my new online store url https://store.containerauthority.com.

So I need to redirect https://lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com to https://store.containerauthority.com.

lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com doesn’t resolve so you’ll need to ask Big Commerce why as it’s a subdomain of their site.

Update: after speaking with several different tech support specialist at BigCommerce the conclusion is listed below and was NOT GOOD for anyone that owns a .BigCommerce store named url and changes it to a new store url.

Example “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” and then at a later date decides to change the store url to such as “mystore.com”.

When you change your stores url from “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” to “mystore.com” you will loose all your 301 redirect access from “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” to forward to your your new store url “mystore.com” so anyone/customers that have a saved bookmark from your old store url will be directed to ““This site can’t be reached”” Check if there is a typo in “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” because that url no longer exists even though BigCommerce owns the old url “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” BigCommerce will not or does not (not sure why this cant be done) have the availability to internally set up a redirect from “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” to “mystore.com”.

This is a serious issue for many reasons, examples: 1) customers can no longer reach your store from their book marks (makes it look like your store is closed and you have moved out of town). 2) any/all links to your store will be lost giving your new store url a START FROM SCRATCH goggle rating loosing any rank that your old store may have received from goggle so if your products were on page one number one its gone now and you have start all over with google ranking. 3) all indexed pages still showing up on google under your old store name url will end you at ““This site can’t be reached”” Check if there is a typo in “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” and more issues I am sure.

Now for the catch, the tech support specialist at BigCommerce did come up with the only one solution. You can purchase a new additional BigCommerce online store attached to your account and name it “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” (if it hasn’t been taking by another new customer) then do a 301 redirect from “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” to “mystore.com” but this will not redirect any specific urls such as example “mystore.mybigcommerce.com/ping-pong-balls” unless you manually input those urls into “mystore.mybigcommerce” with a 301 redirect so if you have 100’s products urls it will be a nightmare and if you miss spell one letter in the url you’ve done nothing. On top of all this you are now paying for two online stores!

Unbelievable/Unacceptable that BigCommerce cant just do a 301 redirect from the old url that they own on their servers “mystore.mybigcommerce.com” to your new store url “mystore.com” without purchasing another online store from them.

Conclusion: I’ts all about BigCommerce getting more money from your pockets and not doing what they can for you a valued customer with a quick simple solution for their customer (note I have been with BigCommerce for 6 years or more) does not matter if I was one day old customer they will still advise you there is nothing they can do on their back end without purchasing another online store account and naming it your old store url and manually entering the 301 redirects from the old store domain name to your new store domain name.

NO mention of these issues in there HELP/SUPPORT PAGES or a pop warning before changing your store name to a new domain name letting you know the issues stated above.

SO BIGCOMMERCE ADD THIS TO YOUR HELP PAGES TODAY SO NO ONES ELSE HAS TO DEAL WITH THIS NIGHTMARE!

IT IS VERY HARD TO BELEIVE THIS SUBJECT ISSUE HAS NOT COME UP BEFORE ME CONTACTING BIGCOMMERCE, SURLEY IT HAS AND IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED TODAY, NOT SOMETHING TO ADDRESS IN THE FUTURE!!

ANY/ALL comments are welcome from either BigCommerce or anyone reading this post.

I will head over to BigCommerce and post this on their help forum as this is not a Cloudflare issue.

Thanks for everyone’s replies!
