I deleted all of my DNS records and can no longer access my website. I didn’t export the records before deleting them so I have no clue what was in them. Ultimately I plan to Cloudflare Tunnel some of my docker containers to this domain.
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
My research has told me that I need to create an a, aaaa, or CNAME DNS record that points to my web server but I have no clue what my web server’s IP address is.
Some more details: I originally purchased this domain from Google, who sold it to Squarespace, then I transferred it over to Cloudflare. I reached out to Squarespace who had no clue what was going on, and I can’t seem to find a good way to contact Cloudflare.
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
Tunnels will make the use of IP addresses (e.g. A and AAAA) useless, as your sever would be making an outbound connection to Cloudflare, and that way establish a “tunnel” allowing for the traffic to pass through, and that way won’t be depending specific IP addresses for inbound connections as it will without a tunnel.
Tunnels are likely irrelevant here, with shared hosting providers, such as e.g. Squarespace.
If Squarespace is your hosting provider, and have taken care of hosting your website for you up until the incident, then Squarespace is the party that needs to provide you with the relevant DNS record(s) to use for your website.
Cloudflare (or any other third parties) won’t have any idea or possibility to know what these DNS record(s) are supposed to be.
The IP address here isn’t correct, as that is one of the IP addresses that the Cloudflare Proxy uses.
It will simply end up on giving you an error, if you try to access your website after the DNS propagation has succeeded.
