Rate Limiting - A good thing?

Rate Limiting on CF

  1. Is this a good thing to have running on all sites?
  2. Is there a fairly high setting to stop rogue spiders and not cost much?

  1. Not really. Spiders usually don’t crawl that fast, and if you rate limit an entire site, legitimate users are more likely to trip it, as it’s possible they’ll hit a page with 50 resources, which counts as 50 hits in less than a minute, and so on.
  2. Not one that’s really effective. Rate Limiting is generally used for protecting logins against brute force attacks, so you’d be protecting one specific URL.
