Railgun RG data header: unknown function

Having trouble getting Railgun to work. It starts running fine but in syslog I keep getting the following output and the response headers indicate requests are going direct. Can anyone help me understand this error and how to address it.

rg-listener: [172.70.177.56:32604] Protocol Error while reading RG data header: unknown function
rg-listener: [172.70.177.56:32604] WAN connection has died
