Purchasing domain through third party site

What is the name of the domain?

bobbrownartist.com

What is the issue you’re encountering

Changing the email associated with the domain name

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I purchased a url through a website that uses Cloudflare as the domain registrar. While trying to verify my SSL (through register.com), the emails associated are not mine. I contacted their support, and they told me to reach out to Cloudflare to resolve. However, Im not sure how to contact Cloudflare to share the hostname information they provided. Any help on updating the email address is greatly appreciated.

What is the current SSL/TLS setting?

Off

I’m afraid I don’t see how it’s possible for you to make any changes over here. This is for bobbrownartist.com, correct?

That domain couldn’t have been registered in your account over here, so you’re in no position here to make changes to that registration.

You’ll have to let them (the people you registered your domain through) know that your account here doesn’t have access to that domain registration.

Hey sdayman. Yes, that is the correct URL. Im trying to get the domain up and running for my employer. I can have them try to login and see if they can be associated with it. I have a hostname info that register.com provided me its just number and letters. I doesn’t mean anything to me. I sent an email to the website that my employer created the site though but since they use cloudflare as their registrar, I am not optimistic that they will be able to resolve the issue. it is all confusing to me. I appreciate your suggestion and if you have any other tips, ill take them.

If you mean to have them log in here to do it, that won’t be possible. register.com registered it on your behalf. You probably paid register.com to do that, and not Cloudflare. The people you paid for the domain registration are the only ones who will be able to fix this.

Thats what I thought.. I contacted register.com and they told me to reach out to cloudflare… Thats what is making this confusing.

Can you explain again what exactly you’re trying to achieve and how that is related to Cloudflare?

I’m not aware of any affiliation between register.com and Cloudflare.

The website was purchased hrough a third-party site that uses Cloudflare as their domain provider (sorry im not familiar with the technical terms). I am having trouble verifying the SSL. I was told by the third party site to contact register.com. When speaking with register.com, I was told inorder to update the email associated with the domain name, I need to reach out to Cloudflare and provide them with the hostname information. Thats all that they said to me, this is the first time I’m dealing with all of this. All Im trying to do is find a way to verify the SSL.

Please ignore all that technical stuff and explain what you’re trying to do.

Which 3rd party? What exactly is the problem there and what did they tell you?

The domain currently uses these nameservers:

bobbrownartist.com. 172800 IN NS john.ns.cloudflare.com.
bobbrownartist.com. 172800 IN NS leia.ns.cloudflare.com.
;; Received 363 bytes from 192.55.83.30#53(m.gtld-servers.net) in 28 ms

Can you explain why you are using these? That looks like a misconfiguration to me.

I think registerdotcom is working with the third party site, they just told me to reach out to cloudflare because the domain name was set up by cloudflare. Again sorry, im not familiar with the lingo and correct words.

Who is this “third party” that you’re refusing to name?

And for the umpteenth time, what’s the actual problem you’re trying to solve?

Please ignore all that and explain, from the beginning, what you’re trying to do. I assume you want to connect your domain to a website somewhere? You don’t intend to use Cloudflare yourself?

Artspan is the thirdparty site. Im trying to make it so that I just need to use bobrownartist.com as the URL instead of having their name in the URL. Artspan said that they are not the registrar for the domain name and that if I wish to transfer I need to talk with registerdotcom. When speaking to registardotcom I need to verify the SSL but the emails associate with the domain are not my emails. They told me to contact cloudflare support and provide a host name and value and that ClouldFlare will then update the info. Thank you for your help, I really do appreciate it and Im trying to explain the best I can

Ok, ignore all that about “verifying SSL” please.

When you connect a domain to a website, the hosting platform (Artspan in your case) will usually give you some DNS records that you need to add to your nameservers.

However, the domain bobbrownartist.com does not have (valid) nameservers currently.

At register.com, there should be a menu where you can set the nameservers that are to be used for your domain. Currently, I see it uses these nameservers:

bobbrownartist.com. 172800 IN NS john.ns.cloudflare.com.
bobbrownartist.com. 172800 IN NS leia.ns.cloudflare.com.
;; Received 363 bytes from 192.41.162.30#53(l.gtld-servers.net) in 28 ms

This change was made sometime around January 2024. Do you know who made this change or why it was made?

These nameservers that are set at register.com are not affiliated with your domain on Cloudflare’s side.

Until 2023, the domain used artspan.com nameservers. From your description, I assume you want to change the nameservers at register.com to use those again.

ns1.artspan.com
ns2.artspan.com
ns3.artspan.com
ns4.artspan.com
ns5.artspan.com

No, i do not know who make the name changes or why they were made. is this something that registerdotcome can change or that I can change it back to artspans nameserver?

That is something you should be able to change in your register.com settings.
