PTR reccord setup

What is the issue you’re encountering

I cannot create the records

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I want to create a PRT record for srv01dns1.example.com and srv01dns2.example.com to the ip address 1.2.3.4 (this is not the real address) and I followed the wiki.

  1. I tried to create the domain 1.2.3.4example.com and I got “Please ensure you are providing the root domain and not any subdomains (e.g., example.com, not subdomain.example.com)”
  2. I tried to create the domain 1.2.3.4.srv01dns1.example.com and I got “Please ensure you are providing the root domain and not any subdomains (e.g., example.com, not subdomain.example.com)”
  3. I created 1.2.3.4.in-addr.arpa and added the PTR (that felt wrong) and of course it asks for nameserver changes which is not applicable.

What did I did wrong? Can you support me please?

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

Nameservers

Unless you control your own IP prefixes, PTR records need to be set by the IP address owner, likely your host or ISP. They may have an option to set these in their dashboard, otherwise you will need to contact them directly.

If you do control the prefix, the setup guide is here…
