Proxy, redirects and initial setup issues

So, we host site within Google Cloud Hosting environments. In Google there is a setting to redirect http to https. We also turn off CDN at Google.
Now, when we switch DNS to Cloudflare, we run into all kinds of issues out of the gate. DNS doesn’t propagate properly or the site doesn’t display. We get “too many redirect” errors and that means both sites must be directing. The proxy setting is prechecked in Cloudflare when we set up new site.
Site displays after we turn off any proxy setting and Redirect settings.

Need to understand proper set up. Otherwise we probably aren’t getting the benefit of Cloudflare other than DNS. My assumption is that they need to be under proxy to get all the supposed benefits.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated
