Protection via clear IP address access


Does Cloudflare only protect the access via domain? Or also the access via the clear IP
Because otherwise it does not really make sense.

I would be very happy about answeres.


It can’t protect the clear IP address, as it’s just routing traffic from the user to that clear IP address.

I have firewall rules set up on my server to block any HTTP or HTTPS traffic that does not come from Cloudflare’s IP addresses. Plus a few other firewall rules to block other unwanted traffic.

Here’s a bit of an explanation:

From the image in that article, attackers can still go around the orange cloud by targeting your origin IP address. Cloudflare works to hide that address, but someone really determined can find it…which is why I have my firewall configured as I explained earlier.
