Problems with Certificate Renewal Validation

What is the name of the domain?

teresas-homes.ch

What is the issue you’re encountering

Unable to validate certificate

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Dreamhost handle the DNS on this domain and I have added the TXT record as requested by Cloudflare. This can be verified here:

I have double-checked that the code returned is as displayed in the Edge Certificates page.
I have tried the link in the email received from CF a number of times over the last few weeks to no avail.

How do I complete the validation process?

Thanks

Could someone please help, or point me to the best place to receive help?

Thank you

Mind of I ask, what exactly are you trying to do, or even accomplish, with Cloudflare?

What certificate status do you see there?

Hi-

Thanks- I typed my original message and lost it twice due to this forum software telling me I had too many links, then clearing everything I’d entered, which was super frustrating. I

The reason for using Cloudflare is for the security and caching/ CDN features. We currently have the cache turned off while we troubleshoot some loading issues.

The Edge Certificates status is “Pending Validation (TXT)” which is showing in a blue background and how it’s been for weeks now, since I added the TXT record and clicked the confirmation link in CF’s email.
There is also an older one “Timed Out Validation (HTTP)”, which is showing in red.

Am I correct, if I’m suspecting that you’re trying to do this, on a Free plan?

If so, the culprit may already been found there, which is what I suspected when you said:

If you for some reason cannot delegate the root domain to Cloudflare, the other option you would have, would be by using a Partial setup:

A Partial setup requires at least a Business plan.

Both Free and Pro requires, that you’re delegating your domain towards the Cloudflare name servers.

Thank you. Yes, I have a free account. I’ve been set up like this for getting on for 10 years now without issue (Dreamhost used to be partnered with CF and you could enable the service with a few clicks in the Dreamhost panel).

I can point the nameservers to CF (I’ve done that with a couple of domains that I host through Dreamhost already).

Sounds like that’s the way. Shall weigh up my options.

Just wish CF’s emails had been a little more helpful, which would have saved me a lot of time and frustration trying to figure out what was going on.

Given that I would call “used to” being past tense, I would have expected that if Dreamhost and CF turned down their partner agreement, that Dreamhost would have notified you about the situation, such as what kind of impact it would have on you, including given you appropriate instructions on how to migrate, given that you were directly affiliated with Dreamhost.

For the eventual lack of such crystal clear information, I would blame Dreamhost.

That said, -

I’m not going to deny that CF would be able to improve in various areas, too

The emails you’re referring to, could possibly also have accounted for and mentioned something like “We do not see your domain delegated to Cloudflare, and as such, cannot proceed.”, or similar.

But that would also complicate development of the systems, … a bit.

There is (unfortunately) too much that various organisations out there aren’t paying (enough) attention to.
