O2 HomeBox answers on 1.1.1.1

#1

When pinging 1.1.1.1, it responds with an impossibly low latency of below 1 millisecond.
The program DNS Benchmark also shows that while cached DNS responses are practically instant, uncached responses take an insane 1.5 seconds.
1.1.1.1 is not reachable for me via HTTP, while 1.0.0.1 is.
Below the tracert and nslookup responses, which should illustrate that the server responding under 1.1.1.1 is not a Cloudflare server, but instead the router provided by O2 Germany whose model is o2 HomeBox 6441 with firmware version 1.01.31v.

Looking forwards to you telling O2 to stop this nonsense of (ab)using an IP that doesn’t belong to them, especially since I assume this also affects lots more less technically savvy users (with ~10% market share it’s one of the larger German providers).

Hi!

I assume (and agree) your router is the culprit. You should also try to contact O2 directly though.

#3

I will certainly do so, unfortunately I don’t think the chances of them listening to input of single customers without additional pressure is very high.

You might never know…
