requests to our sites sometimes result in 524 errors. I understand from the Help Center that this error indicates a timeout if the origin did not respond within 100 seconds.
We are currently investigating the reasons for these long-running requests. But besides that, is it possible to configure sending some type of notification (e.g. an email) whenever Cloudflare responds with a 524 error?
You can set up Passive Origin Monitoring, and/or Standalone Health Checks, but that’s unlikely to catch special cases where a user initiates a process that times out. And that’s pretty much it for built-in notifications.
