I recently aquired the domain name rawamino.co on Namecheap.com. I added this domain to Cloudflare, and then updated the nameservers provided by Cloudflare into Namecheap, like I have previously done for multiple sites. Everytime I have followed the above procedure with previously aquired Namecheap domains, the DNS management info for that site would propogate / add itself to the area in attached screenshot cloudflare1.png That being said, for some reason this did not happen with the newly aquired domain, see attached screenshot cloudflare2.png What am I missing here? Why aren’t the host records automatically populating like it has done for every site prior to this? and how can I resolve it so that it does? Thanks in advance for your help!
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
I have deleted the domain from Cloudflare and restarted the process of adding a new site, to no avail
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
If domain since before wasn’t registered, I am afraid this is expected behaviour since it wasn’t pointed to neither domain nameservers, therefrom no DNS records could be found.
For newly registered domains, we have to either manually add DNS records or import them if we already have some prepared.
Otherwise, if the domain was registered, then went to the grace period or was “registered” but not in use, therefrom hadn’t had any of the DNS records, same thing.
Furthermore, may I ask, are we on the same page as “adding a new zone” vs “register a new domain name”?
hmm ok well for some reason I never had to do this before…it would just sort of auto add itself like 5 min after I update the nameservers over in Namecheap.com
Possibly, if the domain was “hold” for some time already registered since before, it might be Cloudflare pickedup the DNS records from default domain registrar such as Namecheap, meaning the DNS records would point to some default ones which Namecheap uses with their nameservers once the domain is registered, and/or parked to their host
Step 1: I got to Namecheap and register a domain name. Let’s call the domain name www.abcxyz.com
Step 2: After purchasing on Namecheap, I then login to my Cloudflare account, then click the ‘Add a domain’ button.
Step 3: After adding the domain to Cloudflare, Cloudflare provides me with 2 differnt nameservers. I take those 2 nameservers, login to NameCheap, and add those nameservers / click the checkmark (which saves them).
Step 4: I then go back to Cloudflare and confirm that the DNS management info has been added.
The initial DNS scan is a one-time, best-effort scan of commonly used hostnames. It is not guaranteed to pick up any existing records and should always be checked for accuracy. I never use it. I prefer to create fresh, clean records or import a BIND formatted zone file if needed.
If your new zone is similar to any of your other zones, you could use the import and export feature. Be sure to make any necessary adjustments to the exported file before you import it.
Ok, just as an update, I am still unable to find a fix for this specific URL. I tried buying another url that is similar (ending in .shop), went through the entire process, and unfortunately got the same result.
That being said, I figured out a solution…
I tried the whole procedure one more time, this time with a domain name that ends in a .com, and all of a sudden it worked like a charm. The site has propagated in less than 5 min, and all is working well.
For some reason, this does not seem to automatically happen with any domain extensions other than .com. thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it.
