Newly-transferred-in domains have auto-renew on, but renewal date is in the past

What is the name of the domain?

fenixi.co.uk

What is the error message?

“Renews on July 15, 2024” (Note that today is August 8th, 2024)

What is the issue you’re encountering

I’ve just transferred in 2x soon-to-expire domains. They have both auto-renew enabled, they both say “Expires on Aug 14th” and they both say “Renews on Jul 15th”. Given that the auto-renewal date is in the past, does this mean that they will noth NOT auto-renew? (If this is true, then I can go ahead and manually renew both of the them.)

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I have written this new topic to try to get the answer from the community.

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

To reproduce my problem, just transfer in any domain 6 days before it’s due to expire. You will then (presumably) get an auto-renewal date that is in the past.

does this mean that they will noth NOT auto-renew?

does this mean that they will both NOT auto-renew?

.uk domains do not get an additional year added on transfer like most other TLDs so it’s probably the only time this can happen.

If you’ve just made the transfer, it maybe the past renewal date will trigger a renewal to take place shortly, but if you are concerned due to the closeness of expiry, I would manually renew.

I just opened/raised a ticket and I immediately received an automated response from Cloudflare which contained the following text:

User will need to enable Auto Renew at least 10 days before expiration date or they will need to manually renew the domain.

If you follow either of those links to the “Renew domains…” page, you will find the text:

If you decide you want to keep the domain, enable auto-renew at any time prior to expiration.

(Emphasis mine.)

I’ve just tried disabling and re-enabling auto-renewal and, of course, that has no discernible effect. Ho hum.

Time to manually renew, methinks.
