New workers.dev subdomain has no SSL certificate

I just joined the workers paid plan but when I create a service or try to use wrangler dev, every host name fails to have a functioning certificate.

For example

curl https://short-url.cdyn.workers.dev/
curl: (35) error:1404B410:SSL routines:ST_CONNECT:sslv3 alert handshake failure

I have tried this on several VPSs in other geographic regions and encounter the same.

When I try to use wrangler.dev it says

 ⛅️ wrangler 2.0.5

Is workers.dev down?

Turns out that acquiring a *.<your chosen name>.workers.dev certificate can take several hours and this is not visible from the Cloudflare dashboard.

If you run into this after choosing a worker domain, then time is your solution.
