i just tried cloudfare but had to stop it as it was redirecting my site too many times and so lots of customers could not get on to it? also none of the speed testing engines could either

There is a Community #tutorial that covers that. It is often caused by not having SSL configured properly. Choosing the wrong SSL mode in Cloudflare can also leadvto that error.

The best plan is to fix the SSL on your server and make sure to use Full (Strict) in Cloudflare.
