Netlify branch deployment - DNS Validation Error (Code: 1004) Content for CNAME record is invalid

I’m trying to create a CNAME record that points to Netlify’s branch deployment.

The URL I’m trying to point to is qa–noona.netlify.app.

When inserting the CNAME record, it gives me the following error message:
DNS Validation Error (Code: 1004) Content for CNAME record is invalid

Here’s how the CNAME record I’m trying to insert is:
Type: CNAME
Name: qa
Target: qa--noona.netlify.com
TTL: Auto
Proxy: DNS only

What I find interesting is that we already have a similar CNAME record for develop (develop - develop--noona.netlify.com) registered at Cloudflare’s DNS.

Is there something I’m missing? Is this an issue with Cloudflare or Netlify?

It doesn’t like the double-hyphen.

Why not?

I have a low EQ, so I don’t know. All I know is that Dashboard won’t take the double-hyphen.

Any suggestions or ways to make this work - preferably with a double hyphen?
