Need Help with SSL Certificate and Subdomain Redirection on Cloudflare

Hello Cloudflare Community,

I hope you’re all doing well. I am currently facing an issue with SSL certificate configuration and subdomain redirection, and I could really use your expertise.

Here’s my situation:

I have a website hosted with SimplyBook, and I’ve activated their custom domain feature to use my domain, fastvox.com.br, with my booking site. I’ve already paid for an SSL certificate for the main domain, fastvox.com.br. However, this SSL certificate covers only the main domain and not the subdomain www.fastvox.com.br.

My goal is to redirect traffic from www.fastvox.com.br to the main domain (fastvox.com.br) because I do not have an SSL certificate for the www subdomain. To achieve this, I’ve taken the following steps:

I set an A record pointing to the SimplyBook address for fastvox.com.br.
I set a CNAME record named “www” pointing to the main address, fastvox.com.br.

I created a Page Rule to redirect traffic from www.fastvox.com.br to fastvox.com.br.

Despite these efforts, I am still encountering a privacy alert/invalid certificate issue in Google Chrome, specifically the error message (NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID) when accessing www.fastvox.com.br.

My understanding was that by redirecting users to the main address (fastvox.com.br), I would not need to worry about obtaining an SSL certificate for the www subdomain. However, it seems I’m missing something critical in the configuration.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance, suggestions, or insights from the Cloudflare community on how to resolve this issue and successfully redirect traffic from www.fastvox.com.br to fastvox.com.br without encountering SSL certificate errors.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Best regards,

Diogo

Here’s the Forward rule I created.

You need to change the entry for www to proxied, otherwise the redirect is not active.

Thank you so much for your quick and accurate solution! Changing the entry for www to “proxied” did the trick, and the redirect is now active without any SSL certificate errors. I truly appreciate your help and expertise in resolving this issue.

You’ve made my day much better. Thanks again!

Best regards,
Diogo
