Need help connecting Cloudflare domain to Tumblr

What is the name of the domain?

everydayidrawthetitanic.com

What is the error number?

Not sure, tumblr just displays an error message and then defaults to my blog dashboard

What is the error message?

“Whatever you were looking for doesn’t currently exist at this address”

What is the issue you’re encountering

None of the solutions in the tumblr-related questions I’ve seen on here work when I try them. Also, I’ve never done this before and don’t really understand all the terminology. I’m hoping someone can walk me through.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I just transferred this domain over from Squarespace a few days ago. I originally bought it Google Domains in 2015 and never had connectivity problems until I this transfer.
My A record for this domain is currently pointed to tumblr, per the instructions on their website. I’ve turned off proxy(?) because one of the questions on here said to do that. Still can’t access the site via the domain. Please help. I’m terrible at this.

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS records

The domain is correctly pointed at Tumblr, that’s why you’re seeing that error message on their site. But you need to take additional action to let Tumblr know what blog to load for your domain.

Log in to your Tumblr account and connect your domain to your blog. Here’s their support article (the connection part is towards the bottom of the page): Domain Connections – Tumblr Help Center

Good luck!

Hi George,

Reading the requirement section:

1. Your domain must be active. If your domain is expired or suspended at your domain registrar, the domain connection on Tumblr will not work.
My domain is active

2. Your domain’s DNS A record must point to Tumblr’s IP address 66.6.44.4. If the A record for your domain is pointing elsewhere, the DNS server will not be able to find Tumblr.
My A record is pointing at Tumblr

3. Cloudflare blocks Tumblr requests for validating the domain. To prevent connection disruption, it is recommended to have Cloudflare turned off for your domain.
What does this mean? Is connecting to Tumblr via Cloudflare not possible?

Then at the bottom, under the Connect a Domain to your Blog, I follow those instructions but when I click on “Connect” section, it says “it looks like your domain is not pointing at Tumblr,” and instructs me to change the A record (which is currently pointed at Tumblr). It just seems to go in circles, unless I am missing something.

Thank you for your help so far!

Are you using www.everydayidrawthetitanic.com or everydayidrawthetitanic.com in Tumblr? Can you share a screenshot from there?

If you’re using everydayidrawthetitanic.com, you shouldn’t get that error message. You can wait a while maybe 24 hours) and if it still doesn’t work, open a support ticket with Tumblr.

To use www.everydayidrawthetitanic.com, you need to add the A record for this in your Cloudflare DNS as well. Enter only www in the “Name” field, and repeat what you did for the root domain (Type: A, IP: 66.6.44.4, Proxy Status: DNS only).

Standing by for feedback!

I honestly don’t know. I thought it was www but now when I click the bookmark I had to the site it comes up without the www. I guess I don’t understand the difference between the two options. And when I type in the non-www address into another browser it still doesn’t show up. When I typed in the www I was also getting a warning that the connection wasn’t secure but now I can’t get that warning to appear again.

Can you please explain the difference between www and no www? Shouldn’t I use both?
