My website backup

What is the name of the domain?

staged4you.co.za

What is the issue you’re encountering

I had my website re-designed by a web developer over a year ago www.staged4you.co.za and he hosted it with Cloudflare. Two weeks ago i was informed that my website was no longer live. I contacted my hosting company and they redirected the site back to them except it is now my old website. I am looking for a backup of the website that was hosted with Cloudflare

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

have no idea what steps to take

Your site was only hosted with Cloudflare if your developer used Cloudflare Pages. Otherwise they may have just pointed at another hosting service using the Cloudflare DNS.

If the Cloudflare account that was used for your site wasn’t yours, but that of your developer, you won’t be able to get any information from Cloudflare about it. You will need to ask the developer.

I have no idea what he used but the site was hosted by Cloudflare. I cannot get hold of the developer he has disappeared.

I am not a techie so really don’t understand these terms I really need a copy of my website. I have a copy of the ZARC WHOIS server report and it shows a nameserver of bruce.ns.cloudflare.com and ines.ns.cloudflare.com whatever that means. I just really need someone to assist me

Your domain is no longer using Cloudflare as you moved the nameservers away (17 days ago according to securitytrails.com).

You can try the account recovery steps here…

…but as I said, if the Cloudflare account is not yours, then you will not be able to access it or obtain any information about it.

No Cloudflare nameservers are resolving for your domain so it has likely been purged from the account where it was active anyway as the nameservers haven’t pointed at Cloudflare for more than 14 days.

Hi

yes I moved the account away as the site was no longer live. PLEASE PLEASE can you help me to get a backup of the site. This is a start up business that took all my savings to get this web developer to create a new site for me and now I have nothing

I am just a user, so I can’t do anything but give you the publicly available information.

As I said, Cloudflare can’t tell you anything about an account that is not yours. Your only course of action possible is to contact the developer.

Thank you for trying to assist, but how do I actually get hold of anyone at Cloudflare?

You’ll have to create an account and raise a support ticket. But as I keep saying, they won’t give you any information about an account that is not yours.

Cloudflare team members are here on a regular basis. In this case, further contact or outreach is not necessary nor will it be productive.

No, it was not and there is no copy of your site files that cloudflare can access.

If you have a new site, I am curious as to the purpose for trying to find the old site assets?

Ask your new developer for hosting recommendations they have worked with in the past and host the new site at that new hosting provider.

If you want to dig further for the hosting provider for the old site, you can look at historical DNS records, that may point you in the right direction, https://securitytrails.com/domain/staged4you.co.za/history/ns.

 the site was never active in the account you are using here. What does moved it away mean? What action did you take? Did you change nameservers at the domain registrar?

Hi

My site was hosted with Cloudflare by the developer under his name. I signed up as this was the only way that I could log a query. I do not have my new site. I only have my old site and as explained I paid a lot of money to have the new site developed and now I cannot even access it. I do NOT have a new developer. When I registered the domain I had a hosting provider and when the developer who has now disappeared did created my new site he hosted it with Cloudflare I assume on his account. My hosting provider moved the reverted the site back to them on the 2th July but on doing so only my old site was visible. Not sure if the attachment helps at all. This was before the hosting was moved back to 1Grid

I can understand this situation is very frustrating for you, but there is no way Cloudflare can help you, as you are not a Cloudflare customer.

Cloudflare does have hosting options, but in most cases, they sit between the visitor and the host to provide services such as firewall and caching. As part of their service, Cloudflare hides who the actual host of a website is.

If @cloonan (a Cloudflare employee) tells you that the site was not hosted by Cloudflare, I think you can believe him.

Going forward, you can consider legal action against the developer or have a new site developed (and this time insist that you are given the account information for that website). I don’t really see any other options if you can’t contact the developer.
