I am trying to investigate why I am not receiving emails. I have set the MX record to point to my smtp server (smtp.nottagemews.uk) but when I run dig MX nottagemews.uk it returns _dc-mx.e899192f1169.nottagemews.uk. This is also confirmed on whatsmydns.net. Is this normal?
Cloudflare does not proxy email protocols like SMTP. You should edit the DNS record for smtp so that is is DNS Only

The little 
beside your MX record tells you that Cloudflare will give a fake result so that people can actually reach your email server.
