I’m moving several sites over to Cloudflare DNS. Do i need to change the MX record mx2. mail-forwarder .io this for mail in Google Workspace to continue working?
If you’re just copying over all current records, exactly as they appear, it should work exactly as it did before.
Just make sure that any (A
and AAAA
) records, whose name contains stuff like “mail
”, “mx
”, “pop
”, “smtp
”, “imap
”, as well as CNAME
records whose name contains “_domainkey
” all have their Proxy status set to Unproxied () / DNS-only.
I’m however getting a little bit worried here?
-
Are you logging in to Google, using a free
@gmail.com
address, where you also receive messages that had been sent to your own custom domain? -
Or are you paying Google, for the Google Workspace product/package, where you log in using an address on your own custom (non-
@gmail.com
) domain?
mail-forwarder.io
could seem like you have a set up with them as a middle man, so they are forwarding your messages (for example, like #1, which would be most common with a free (@gmail.com
) address).
Based on what you shared so far, I actually see indications that could go in multiple directions, - however, as I said above, you cannot go completely wrong, if you make sure that you copy all records exactly as they appear in the current provider, and leave mail related records as Unproxied () / DNS-only.
If you would like some further digging in to the situation, I would suggest that you share the domain name(s) involved, especially the one(s) where you have this concern with the mail-forwarder.io
MX
.
Thanks so much, this is the domain that is linked to the emails primacommercial.com.au The client uses a paid Google Workspace account, I can’t be sure how the emails are set up though. I’m actually getting someone to help with the DNS transfer now as I was too scared of making a mistake and leaving my client with no email.
The forwarder io was on primaofficefurniture.au which is linked
Googling "mx1.mail-forwarder.io"
produces a total of 54 results. I would be very sceptical.
The site primaofficefurniture.au
does indeed have this record but appears to not be in use. primaofficefurniture.com.au
on the other hand displays a website (albeit with about a 4 second pageload).
I recommend you ask your clients if they even want to use the .au domain, because it is currently not doing much of anything.
Thank you, the previous agency my client was with this had this set up as redirecting to the primary domain. I think they could do without it to be honest!
The load time is really bad, I will be working on this next
Thanks so much
