Modem issues

I just had a similar problem today. I have been using 1.1.1.1 with static IP addresses, etc. For about a month now on my Orbi router and today all of a sudden I lost my internet connection. Called my ISP (Spectrum) and it turned out I had internet but when I connect the network cable from my modem to Orbi somehow I was loosing it. Then I called Orbi and we figured out that I had to change my IP and DNS settings to Auto to get my internet back. Helpdesk said sometimes those static IP’s goes down or something so that may be the reason I lost my connection.
Any idea what he was taking about?

That rather seems to be an issue with the IP assignment than anything DNS related. You probably got a new IP address.
