Minecraft SRV Record not pointing to server, can connect with domain name and IP

What is the name of the domain?

destinygaming.org - ddns.destinygaming.org

What is the issue you’re encountering

So im having issues with my SRV records not connecting users to my MC world using just say mc.destinygaming.org. For an overview of everything quick I have my domain destinygaming.org managed and set through cloudflare, but my ISP charges a crazy amount to reserve an IP. So I am using the K0p1 script on an VM to auto change the IP set for my A record everytime it changes, and for that A record I have the subdomain ddns.destinygaming.org pointed because of the changing public IP. In addition my ISP doesnt allow port forwarding above 8000 so I have to set a custom port hence a SRV record. The script is working so its not an issue with that, I am able to connect to the server from destinygaming.org:4001 and from mc.destinygaming.org:4001. But I am always required to set my custom port. I have tried to do my best to follow different guides and read up on some forums but nothing works when everything seems to be setup correctly to my knowledge. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

A Record set to IP ddns.destinygaming.org
CNAME Records pointing to A Record with appropriate sub domains
SRV Record point to various records and subdomains

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS records

I have noticed now that the server cant be connected to sometimes without the port but its very finicky. You have you spam reload on the minecraft server listings and sometimes it shows it reached it and others shows there no connection. But the listing with the port in the IP stays 100% consistent on being able to connect to it.

That’s not the name that you used for your SRV records. You would have to use _minecraft._tcp.mc for your SRV records if you wanted to use the mc subdomain.

However, I can’t connect to your server using the IP and port directly, so right now the SRV record isn’t the problem.

Hey! Thanks for the reply, adding the .mc does make sense but it doesnt seem to be working either? For the server being down that is because I am still working on it. Its only a small server for friends and im only doing the DNS because im bored its not needed, but I can confirm connectivity is possible when its up an running.

Can you start it now?

Edit: Using the mc subdomain works for me now.

Mhm thats defiantly strange lol. I am able to connect to it just from destinygaming.org which I dont understand how thats working, but the mc.destinygaming.org isnt working for me

I know its a big ask but would you mind possibly hopping in a discord call to diagnose this with me? Very confused on how your mc.destinygaming.org is working but mine isnt.

I can, but I don’t think there’s much to diagnose. It’ll probably work for anyone but you, leaving local network configuration and DNS cache.

Anyway, I’m boring, so my Discord name is Laudian as well.

But I’d recommend you use dig/nslookup to check both the SRV and A records for the mc subdomain first from your device.

If thats the case honestly perfectly okay with that, like I said only doing this cause its fun to me and I work in cybersecurity. I did a nslookup and was able to return my pub IP for the domains. Added you on discord also, my names nutty (boring with you lol).
