Microsoft Dns

Hello, good day, so, I added Cloudflare Dns to my Pc in the network tab, but I also have Cloudflare Dns on in Microsoft Edge, my question is, should I take off the one from Edge and just leave the Dns setting on in my Pc’s network adapter?

This one covers the whole system, and all applications at once.

Other applications such as e.g. email programs (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird) will be affected by this.

This one only covers Microsoft Edge’s own DNS traffic, and not DNS traffic initiated by other applications on your machine.

Other applications such as e.g. (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird) will NOT be affected by this, and will still be using your operating system’s settings, if you’re only configuring Microsoft Edge this way.

The setting in Microsoft Edge, when you have the exact same setting as the system, may be redundant, and can be taken away from Microsoft Edge.

Unless you’re having some kind of issue or so, that magically vanishes when you have configured it in both places, I would just leave it in the operating system’s settings for your network adapter.

Yeah, I was thinking the same, and I have had the same experience were turning on both helps, so, I just left both on. but, thanks so much for your detail replies.

Edge will send encrypted queries using DNS over HTTPS (DoH) when it has been provided nameservers. Your OS is not yet likely to use DoH, although such configuration is available in Windows 11.

Using encrypted queries via DoH or DoT will prevent eavesdropping. If you dont have the option to use one of those methods at the OS level, keeping the nameservers in Edge will protect the DnS queries used by your web browsing.

So, it’s best to have on both huh, alright, thanks so much for your input, it really helps a lot.
