Will migration to Cloudflare affect my access to the mail box I have. I don’t really want forwarding or routing to a gmail etc account.

Not if you configure it correctly.

  • If MX records point to hostnames in the same domain, they need to be :grey: DNS Only.
  • Hostnames that need to support email protocols such as IMAP, SMTP, etc, also need to be :grey: DNS Only.
  • Be sure to configure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC as directed by your email provider.
  • Do not configure more than one SPF record and one DMARC record.

Hi
Thank you for the reply.
I’m relying on the Cloudflare system to analyse and import my DNS settings for email before nameserver change and then finally I will change IPS tag.

Is there any reason why it would not gather and import correctly, a mailbox has SMTP etc, would any of that fail?
Thanks again for guidance,
Kevin

It is always advisable to validate the records created by import. It is a best effort process with no way of knowing what records you may have. It just queries common hostnames. If you have a wildcard record, it is highly advisable to remove it prior to initiating the scan from Cloudflare. You can wind up with hundreds of unexpected records created by the scan if you have an active wildcard record. You can easily recreate it in Cloudflare if you need it.

It bears repeating to make sure that any hostnames you will use with email or other non-HTTP protocols must be set to:

Thank you.
I have done the transfer of another domain as a test, the existing mailbox settings, SMTP etc all still work correctly despite TAG and Nameserver changed to Cloudflare. The concern is always this will be lost.

All records were correctly set to DNS only. With my limited confidence in this area this is helpful.
Thank you again.
