Long lived durable object instance?

I am attempting to create a singleton durable object that connects to a data feed via websocket, and continually pulls in live streaming data.

However, I am getting weird behaviors, where the durable object seems to keep spinning up and down, rather than just staying alive and reading from the stream.

Is this use case supported?

Is there a way to ensure the durable object instance stays alive forever? I am trying to keep a global single instance up in perpetuity
