London Underground wifi: private DNS not working

Hi,
The London Underground transit service provides public wifi at all their stations. I’ve found that private DNS is inaccessible. I’m using Android 11 with the private DNS set to 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com in the network settings. The phone warns that private DNS isn’t accessible. I have to turn it off to access the wifi. (It works ordinarily, on mobile data and other Wifi)

Has anyone else found this? What could the issue be - is the wifi provider blocking access to 1.1.1.1:853 ?
