Load Balancer Issues - Session Stickyness not working since a couple of hours

What is the issue you’re encountering

Cloudflare Load Balancer - Session Stickyness - Not working today!!

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Hey together,

we and our customers are using Cloudflare Load Balancer with Session Stickyness set to Cloudflare Cookie with ip fallback. We have a pool of 4 hosts in the background.
Requests from outside of Cloudflare to the Load Balancer Hostname are not sticky! They are freely jumping between the hosts. We have those issues since a couple of hours and we had to reduce our host count to one host in the pool weight configuration. So our users now have a slower application but they can work.

I was not able to open a ticket at the moment so i post that here… We need a fix @Cloudflare!!!

We now had to change the DNS entries because there was no help from cloudflare.

The load balancer with problems is now available here: www-cflb.choice-erp.de
Same issue: Session Affinity is not working. Freely jumping between the 4 hosts.

To give the Cloudflare team more information about the situation:

Here are two cf-ray IDs that were made from the same client but got to different hosts even the _cflb cookie stayed the same and the session affinity should have kicked in but id´t didn´t:

Cf-Ray 1: 8e9dd8d7aa0bf815-DUS
_cflb 1: 0H28v5g6C7hKQrBknKkVx7roWnS7sU5WcX5cM41zKL7

_cflb 2: 0H28v5g6C7hKQrBknKkVx7roWnS7sU5WcX5cM41zKL7

Hello, the issue has been fixed. No missing cookie is observed anymore.

OK thanks. @ikmal @WalshyMVP What was the cause and how do you mitigate this issue in the future. We now had the issue for more than 24 hours and had to reroute traffic to another (competitor) load balancer. We need to convince our customers to get them back to cloudflare and they will ask those questions.

Hello,

We have observed again the issue. Around 05/Dec/2024:02:00:00 GTM+0100
Users requests have been alternating origins, not respecting session affinity.

We had the same issue today. Do you still have those problems? @dev148

@ikmal, @WalshyMVP: We have ciritical load balancer issues again… Session Affinity is not working at all.

For example:

CFRay 1: 8ee3ee1a393ecb09-DUS
_cflb: 02DiuJFoVaobocynoXxY1XSmdWJvLqzRHBkH9Yg4UrEkT

CFRay 2: 8ee3f14e2d33cb09-DUS
_cflb: 02DiuJFoVaobocynoXwj8xP24vFLeW7ebhApk6MoH1AMR

The Requests are made directly after eachother without cleaning the cookies. The requests are jumping across the hosts. PLEASE FIX THAT!

Here you can see the beginnging of the problem. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. I got not response to ticket, no real help in chat. Nothing in X…

It looks like it came back for a bit, but should be resolved now:
