JPEG XL (jxl
) is a relatively new image format that’s posed to disrupt images on the web. It’s the most feature-rich new image format (surpassing WebP and AVIF), while maintaining smaller image sizes at the same visual fidelity, as well as progressive rendering.

It’s in both Chromium and Firefox behind a flag today, with hopefully more wider (and unflagged support) very soon. Getting support in Cloudflare Image Resizing would allow websites to deliver jxl
images to supported clients, and drastically reduce their page weight.
