Issues with DNS records not updating on a domain purchased through Cloudflare

What is the name of the domain?

laperleaesthetics.co.uk

What is the error number?

N/A (No specific error number)

What is the error message?

N/A (No specific error message, but incorrect IP responses are observed when pinging subdomains)

What is the issue you’re encountering

I recently purchased a domain directly on Cloudflare, and I’m facing an issue where adding or updating DNS records doesn’t seem to work, even after turning off the proxy. Additionally, when I ping any subdomain (e.g., anything.example.com), it responds with a Cloudflare IP address, even though no DNS records have been added for that subdomain. I have tried to use DNS records pointing to a normal IP address with the proxy off, but it doesn’t work either.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

1- Added and updated DNS records in the Cloudflare dashboard.
2- Turned off the Cloudflare proxy (set to DNS-only).
3- Verified the DNS settings and tried various configurations.
4- Pinged subdomains to test DNS propagation.

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS not responding/updating

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

1- Purchase a domain directly on Cloudflare.
2- Add or update DNS records in the Cloudflare dashboard.
3- Turn off the Cloudflare proxy for those DNS records.
4- Ping a subdomain (e.g., anything.example.com) to check if it resolves correctly.
5- Observe that the subdomain responds with a Cloudflare IP address despite the configurations.

As you say, your records appear to be proxied…

…including a wildcard record. Did you set a wildcard record or is that strange behaviour as well?

For completeness, can you show a screenshot of your Cloudflare DNS records?

Can you try to pause Cloudflare to see if this removes the proxy?

Thanks for your advice here.

I have removed all the proxies from the records as below:

Still, returning Cloudflare IP when I ping it. The weird thing is that you can try to ping any subdomain, although there is no record for them!

E.g. ping anything.laperleaesthetics.co.uk

I think you’ll need to raise a ticket to get Cloudflare to look at this one.

Hi @cloonan , I would greatly appreciate your assistance, as I have raised two tickets but have not yet received any response or solution regarding this issue.

Tickets ID:
01056086
01063889

I’ve escalated that to the support team. In the future, please don’t create multiple tickets for the same issue. I can promise you that it won’t speed up the process if everyone creates multiple tickets.
