When using Cloudflare Warp with Wi-Fi on an Android device, YouTube and YouTube Music won’t download videos or music if the “Download only on Wi-Fi” option is enabled. The apps will display a “Waiting for Wi-Fi” message.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Disconnecting from Cloudflare Warp will solve the issue; however, that defeats the purpose of using Cloudflare Warp.

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

  1. Connect to Cloudflare Warp
  2. On YouTube and YouTube Music, enable “Download on Wi-Fi Only”
  3. Download any video or music.

The downloaded video or music will show the message “Waiting for Wi-Fi.”

Add to tunnel or application exceptions

Settings > Advanced > Connection options > Menage excluded routes

add this *.googlevideo.com

I’m getting this error message when adding the domain.

However, if I just type googlevideo.com It will be added.

I was able to add googlevideo.com

Then I re-enabled Download only on Wi-Fi in YouTube / YouTube Music and tried to download the video again but didn’t solve the issue.

if we exclude the application?
Settings > Advanced > Connection options > Menage excluded Apps

Test Setup:
A. Exclude YouTube on the Cloudflare Warp app
B. YouTube App > Download over Wi-Fi Only (Enabled)

Result:
A. Downloading video on YouTube Work

Note:
However, this defeats the purpose of having Cloudflare Warp if I will exclude YouTube.

Update: The issue seems to be related to how the VPN connection of Cloudflare Warp is deemed as Metered Network even if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi.
