I understand I can turn on the proxy for this A record, however; this was attempted and broke communication and other services used by empployees. We would like to obfuscate banner grabs on the sub domain, specifically if a banner grab is done we would like the fact that the apache software is being used.
Are you referring to the Server header?
If so, if you proxy a hostname Cloudflare will set its own server name. If you do not proxy it, Cloudflare won’t be involved in the first place and it’s fully up to your software to send whatever you want.
