Is SSL/TLS even work when we only use CloudFlare DNS?

Hello there,

I have a few confusion, hope it will clear after your answer. So my question is; If I turned off “proxied” and only use CloudFlare DNS then will bellow setting work on my website?:-

  1. Always Use HTTPS
  2. HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS)
  3. Automatic HTTPS Rewrites
  4. Firewall
  5. Auto Minify
  6. Brotli
  7. SSL/TLS (Full)

Thank you so much in advance for clearing my confusion.

Your own certificate - which you will need in any case, regardless of your proxying status - will of course work.

No, those are all Cloudflare proxy services. If you turn off Proxied, all visitors go straight to your server with no modification by Cloudflare.

Hey! thanks, Yes i can do all these on my server but I am asking about only CloudFlare SSL and all the security setting if i turned off PROXIED.

Of course they will deactivate, as you wont go through Cloudflare’s proxies, as @sdayman already elaborated.

Means all other setting is useless if i am only using DNS service, except DNSSEC, Right?

Precisely. Disabling proxying basically leaves you with Cloudflare’s DNS service.

Turning off proxy at Cloudflare stops traffic from passing through their network, making your origin server IP address visible. Also, Cloudflare’s security and protection features become disabled.
