Is my site's new Cloudflare configured correctly?

What is the name of the domain?

looseasswargamers.org.uk

What is the issue you’re encountering

Site not loading

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Tried several DNS lookup sites but to be fair I’m not sure what I’m checking. Site (phpbb3) hit by recent bit spamming. Suggested Cloudflare as solution so setup free option. CF says it is working but nothing yet loading. Will the DNS take a while to update (been a couple of hours) or is there anything I can check to confirm if there is a problem or not…

Thanks in advance. Apologies for lack of tech knowledge…

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS not responding/updating

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

It’s timing out trying to contact your server. Is the server up and running? Can you connect to it directly, by IP address? You can try changing the DNS entry to “DNS Only”, which will bypass Cloudflare temporarily so you can see.

Hi, Thanks for the response. To be honest I don’t know if the site is up or not. It’s been hit with a LOT of bot traffic of late that has killed it multiple times with:

User ‘looseass_dbroot’ has exceeded the ‘max_user_connections’ resource (current value: 30) [1226]

The hosting company (Velocitas) have been rubbsih. Despite speaking to ‘someone’ several times who has supposedly chased the tech support I’ve had no response to my logged call for a week… Sick of them.

I’d hoped that adding Cloudflare would block the bots and then bring the site back but I suppose it it’s down then it ain’t going to work anyway…

Yes, that error is from your backend database. It’s saying that your app has opened too many connections at the same time. If this is because of bot traffic, Cloudflare could help with that, but first you have to get the site back up and running, which is going to have more to do with your hosting company. It sounds like it’s “stuck” in the overloaded state.

If you are running on a VPS and the MySQL server is your own, try rebooting the entire thing. Beyond that, it’s kind of out of scope for this forum.

I will be making more phone calls tomorrow and shouting at them. Again. And am currently looking at switching hosting.

All very frustrating…

It’s shared hosting so kicking it isn’t really an option.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Final question. As I have access to cpanel I can get a full backup of database and site. If I move the site to a new hosting supplier (leaving the domain with the current one for now) I’m hoping I can bring the forum back up.

But what will I need to do to link it to Cloudflare again?

Your DNS is at Cloudflare. So if you set up the site with a different hosting provider, once it’s up and running, you would just change your DNS entries at Cloudflare to point to the new hosting.

OK. The site seems to have come back up and is working through Cloudflare. However I’m still getting 1000+ guests showing…

I’d thought adding the bot blocking rules would stop this…
