Is it possible to use CNAME records to point to Cloudflare's Nameservers?

Here’s the situation:

We have many domains on our nameservers, currently pointing to a cPanel server. We want to migrate all of these domains to Cloudflare’s nameservers. It would be very cumbersome to log into each of our clients’ domains and update the nameservers to Cloudflare’s.

Is it possible for us to CNAME our current nameservers to Cloudflare’s nameservers?

The current setup looks like this:
ns1 . ourdomain . com -A->
ns2 . ourdomain . com -A->

We would like to do this
ns1 . ourdomain . com -CNAME-> name1 . ns . cloudflare . com
ns2 . ourdomain . com -CNAME-> name2 . ns . cloudflare . com

Is this possible? If not, we’ll just do a good ol’-fashioned update and reach out to the clients. However, I feel it’s worth asking first.

Thank you!

Hi @lance7, unfortunately it is not possible to do such configuration and use CNAME records to point to Cloudflare’s nameservers. However, you might be interested on taking a look at our feature Custom Nameservers:

With custom (or vanity) nameservers, a domain can use Cloudflare DNS without using Cloudflare branded nameservers. For instance, you can configure ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com as nameservers for example.com .

This feature is available for Business and Enterprise customers at the moment.

Here is an external tutorial that is very useful too:
