Is A Business Account Right For Me?

#1

I’m a newb here in the Cloudflare community, however, I’ve been using the platform for some time as a ‘free account.’

I am considering upgrading my employer’s website to a Business account because I’m trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of it as possible. I understand all the security upgrades, but in order to justify the cost, I need to see some speed improvements. My origin host is WP Engine, which is not an ‘optimized’ partner of CloudFlare, but it is a Certified partner. I was looking at getting a Business account because I’ve read about Railgun and the potential of huge speed increases. Is that feature going to work with WP Engine? I asked a tech at WP Engine and he said he doesn’t know. I’m assuming not.

If not, what other options does CloudFlare feature to help speed improvements? Argo? Anything else?

Thanks,

Marshall

Here’s some benefit of Business Plan:

  • Advanced L3, L4 and L7 DDoS Protection
  • Custom SSL Certificate
  • Up to 25 WAF rules
  • PCI DSS 3.2 Compliance
  • Polish, Mirage and Railgun
  • Ability to bypass cache on cookie
  • Custom Nameservers
  • More detailed analytics
  • 50 free page rules

But if you do not have access to the server, you cannot install Railgun. You need to ask WPEngine about this since some hosting provider does not give you access to your server. If they do, and they allow you to install apps, here’s the installation guide:

Argo and Loud Balancing will cost an additional fund. More details about pricing and comparison can be seen here:

Thanks for the response. I will be giving Argo and Load Balancing a shot for now and just upgrading to Pro for the image/mobile optimizations for now. Once I migrate our property next year to an Optimize partner, I will upgrade to Business.

Hi mmalone,

My first post here but I’m looking at upgrade options currently, did you see any speed improvements by upgrading to Pro or not?

It sounds like we were / are in similar boats where we have optimised everything but are trying to eak out that little bit more, so I am intersted to know if it made a huge difference on the performance front.

Thanks in advance
