Is 1.1.1.1 a consumer only dns resolver?

#1

The 1.1.1.1 announcement says:

We’re excited today to take another step toward that mission with the launch of 1.1.1.1 — the Internet’s fastest, privacy-first consumer DNS service.

Is it strictly consumer only? The term “consumer” is used several times within the announcement. Can I use 1.1.1.1 as a business user as well? I did not find any terms of services for that services.

I believe they with consumer mean that it is geared towards the public as it is a Public DNS Resolver, not an Authoritative DNS service like the standard Cloudflare offering.

It can be used by whoever wants, of course there is no SLA (but come on, it’s 5 years since the last outage of Cloudflare and I believe it would be practical impossible to have one of that scale now).

But they named it “consumer” not “public” resolver.

For a public resolver it would be fine to use it as a business user, even without SLA.

Yes you can use it. If you are a large business or service provider we would ask that you contact us first 1.1.1.1(at)cloudflare(dot)com first to discuss.
