iPhone 1.1.1.1 app checks for what went wrong before connecting

What is the name of the domain?

1.1.1.1 iOS app

What is the error message?

Your network wants you to sign-in.

What is the issue you’re encountering

App fails to connect using a working Internet connection

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

  1. Have a buggy router that hijacks plaintext DNS to bring up a page that says “Success! Problem resolved. Internet access available.” Unfortunately, the problem continues after that.
  2. On Linux, manually set up 1.1.1.1 as the DNS server and turn on DNS over TLS because the router is only hijacking plaintext DNS. See that the Internet works perfectly after that.
  3. On iOS, set up the 1.1.1.1 app because it promises encrypted DNS.
  4. Turn on the iOS app’s VPN mode and get the error “Your network wants you to sign-in.”

Can the app please be changed to first just try an encrypted connection to Cloudflare’s DNS and WARP servers and only if that fails check for WiFi sign-in pages?

I’ve tried the 1.1.1.1 app on macOS, and it works fine there.
