IPFS Gateway: "The requested hostname resolves to a Cloudflare zone that is not owned by you"

I’m trying to use a domain name (let’s call it example.com) with Cloudflare IPFS Gateway. I’ve done it before for other domains with no issues, but this particular domain keeps failing.

  1. The DNS records for the domain are managed by Cloudflare
  2. I added the DNSLink record _dnslink.example.com
  3. I created a CNAME from example.com (the root domain) to Cloudflare-ipfs.com
  4. On the page https://www.cloudflare.com/distributed-web-gateway/ I type example.com to add the domain, but it fails with:

Certificate issuance is delayed, maybe because: The requested hostname resolves to a Cloudflare zone that is not owned by you. HTTP domain control validation (DCV) cannot be completed. Update this hostname to resolve to your zone and PATCH to try again.

Additionally, visiting http://example.com fails with a Cloudflare error 1014

Did this manage to sort itself out?

I disabled SSL for the live website (still pointing to a normal IP) and re-enabled it, and then the IPFS certificate was created.

However, my website is still down with error 1014: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/213432887-Error-1014-CNAME-Cross-User-Banned
