I read in another topic that 1.1.1.1 “won’t work over cellular networks.”
Does this mean that if I use my iPhone as a WIFI hotspot, and connect to it with my iPad which is setup to use 1.1.1.1, this doesn’t work?
As long as your mobile carrier routes 1.1.1.1 (many don’t, so try
1.0.0.1) then you can probably configure it to work. The issue is that
iOS doesn’t expose DNS server configuration when the device is connected
to cellular networks, so the iPhone itself cannot be configured to use
customized DNS servers.
(As an aside, remember that this must be configured on every single wifi
network you join, there is no system-wide way to change DNS servers even
on wifi).
