Interruption of Send / Receive for SMTP Emails after Connecting to Cloudflare

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

I recently connected my HostGator domain to Cloudflare. After doing so, I have immediately experienced an interruption in receiving and sending my email associated with my domain.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I contacted HostGator and they told me that it could take up to 48 hours to propagate and connect. However, my Cloudflare dashboard is telling me that everything is connected and up and running. Is it true that this will automatically resolve itself within 48 hours and my email accounts will just start sending and receiving again?

Set your mail hostname to “DNS only” instead of “Proxied”.

Make sure your mail client is connecting to mail.pexldesign.com and not pexldesign.com.

Thank you, sjr!

I just changed my mail hostname to DNS only.

And by mail client, you’re referring to the MX record, correct?

I re-ran that test at the link you provided after making this update but it’s still giving me an alert saying:

autoconfig.pexldesign.com appears to be proxied; this record would normally be set to “DNS only”.

autodiscover.pexldesign.com appears to be proxied; this record would normally be set to “DNS only”.

Do I need to change those as well?

No, I mean the hostname you have entered into your mail reader to connect to your server to send and receive mail. Now you are using cloudflare, the domain name is proxied so for mail (which Cloudflare can’t proxy, unless you use Cloudflare Spectrum) you need to use a “DNS only” hostname.

If you are using autoconfig or autodiscover, then yes, likely those need to be “DNS only” as well.

Thank you @sjr

You assisted me in fixing my issue better than my own hosting provider was able to do.

I appreciate you! Sent you a tip via ko-fi

Cheers!
