Increased connection on origin server with proxy mode

Hi all.

After enabling proxy mode and routing traffic through Cloudflare, number of active connections on our origin server increases by about 3-4 times. Sources of connections are from Cloudflare’s IP ranges. After disabling proxy mode number of connections becomes as usual. Most configuration on Cloudflare is default.

Is this Cloudflare’s normal behavior or it can be reconfigured somehow?

The problem is not that we see Cloudflare IP addresses as source. The problem is that active connections to origin server increase significantly when traffic flows through Cloudflare, however real clients’ number is not changed.
