I can't proxy A DNS records anymore (This record type cannot be proxied - Code: 9004)

I have been using CF to proxy public IPs for ages - suddenly, today, when my dynamic IP changed, Cloudflare refused to update the associated DNS A record:

This record type cannot be proxied. (Code: 9004)

The IP is public and received over DHCP from the ISP, and the DNS is a simple subdomain (no wildcard of anything special). I use a free CF account. If I flip the proxy DNS configuration, it works as expected (but for obvious reasons, I’m not willing to keep it as such).

This was very annoying because it brought down my private cloud infrastructure out of nowhere. Any idea what changed?

Closing. This was due to a bug in the dyndns service, which was advertising a private IP.
