my contact page sends messages to me but i cannot send or receive emails or respond
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
I have tried to send messages to cloudflare and navigate the support or how to get support
but it is very unclear and I have received no support from cloudflare and have no idea how
to fix this issue.
What are the steps to reproduce the issue?
Not sure I don’t understand how to navigate Cloudflare and I do not know how to get
support. Someone please help me.
Checking your email related DNS records (MX) for your domain, it looks like you’re using Cloudflare’s Email Routing feature which cannot be used as an SMTP sending server.
Custom addresses you create with Email Routing work as forward addresses only. Emails sent to custom addresses are forwarded by Email Routing to your destination inbox. Cloudflare does not process outbound email, and does not have an SMTP server.
Please, keep in mind, this feature doesn’t allow you to use [email protected] email address to sent out emails. You can only receive emails to [email protected] which then are forwarded to your desired destination email address such as [email protected].
Email routing feature is only for e-mail forwarding to your inbox (like private Gmail) in case you do not have any e-mail service configured for your domain name (like [email protected]).
Unfortunately, it’s not mentioned to work as a SMTP server and cannot be used for sending e-mails.
If you’d like to sent emails as well in the name of [email protected], then you’d have to find an dedicated email service provider such as NameCheap is offering at below link and pay for it:
Nevertheless, small simple steps regarding setup are needed in such case related to the DNS records to make it work with your domain name while using Cloudflare (NameCheap as an example here)
Since you’re using WordPress, consider installing and configuring a plugin such as one from below, which could connect to your outgoing/sending email server and sent emails from your Contact form to your desired destination address:
Otherwise, if you’ve got an email server already, then you’d have to decide to either use it for your email and add the MX record or use only Cloudflare’s forwarding service (Email Routing) to receive emails once someone sends one to [email protected] (which would forward it to e.g. [email protected]).
