Cloudflare provides Cloudflare Email Routing, but its limitation is that it can receive, but not send yet. There are many open threads on this because people need to receive and send from a custom domain. I’m using Cloudflare for all our business other services (Cloudflare Pages, Domains, DNS, etc), so I’m trying to find a solution that makes Cloudlfare Email Routing for both send & receive, so we can keep using it.
I figured out how to receive via Cloudflare Email Routing and send email using Gmail with my custom domain on Cloudflare, and shared instructions on this to help others with their open questions on this topic.:
(p.s. Then these threads were overly aggressively closed this should not be happening. This just hinders people’s ability to find a useful solution to make the Cloudflare Email Routing service useful to them.)
But as noted in the now closed threads, I’m trying to remove “via Gmail” during sending, so that I can continue using Cloudflare Email Routing for receiving. My theory is this needs DKIM set up, but I’m not sure.
Has any other Cloudflare Email Routing users removed “via Gmail” or similar, when sending from a custom domain hosted on Cloudflare?
I posted a guide to help others use Gmail to send on the open threads and then @sandro for some reason immediatley locked all 3 threads. Not allowed to be helpful on the recurring questions people have?
Also, now nobody is able to respond to help me with the last part, which how to set up DKIM so it doesn’t say “via Gmail”. This alone makes me me want to switch off Cloudflare email routing.
I like Cloudflare Products and have been promoting CF, but this community forum is a disaster and will be CF’s achiles heel. I say this as CF shareholder too.
These threads have been locked because you have posted the same message all over the board (spam?), bumped day-old threads, and the issue is not even Cloudflare related and so off-topic for the forum.
Cloudflare does not provide email services and that should be discussed in a more appropriate forum.
People were asking how to send outbound via Gmail and nobody gave them an answer. I responded with clear instructions (copied below) and they are obviously not spam

Assuming you’re using Cloudflare routing to a personal Gmail, you can send via Gmail using SMTP:
Visit https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords and create an “app password”, choose other as the type of app and name it anything like Cloudflare mydomain.com aliases; store the app password that is displayed.
Still in your personal Gmail, go to your personal Gmail > Cog icon > See All Settings > Accounts and Imports > and in the “Send email as” section click “Add another email address”. Set up SMTP using smtp.gmail.com, keep port as 587, username should be [email protected] and the app password we created, and submit. It will send a confirmation that you enter on the next screen. Do this for as many aliases as you need to send from like [email protected] & [email protected]; you can use the same app password.
Still in your personal Gmail’s Send email as section, check to Reply from the same address the message was sent to.
This will send and reply from your custom domain, however Gmail will show [email protected] via Gmail. DKIM needs to be set up to get rid of via Gmail. I haven’t figured this part out yet, so if anyone knows please share.
Yes, Cloudflare provides email forwarding and there is a dedicated forum for that → Email Routing
Sending email is not part of the services and hence off-topic. I kindly asked you to respect that and to ask that question in an appropriate forum, as it is off-topic for here.
Also, the other topic you posted in was about mail forwarding and not sending at all. Again, if you have questions on forwarding, please ask that in the appropriate forum. As for sending and configuration of third party provides, that is unfortunately beyond the scope of the forum here.
The easiest way is to not send with a personal Gmail account. There are many services that one can use to send DMARC capable email that is DKIM signed. Cloudflare does not offer any such makes the subject off-topic for the Cloudflare Community.

I did post in Email Routing and is where I found and responded to other people’s quesitons that were left (unhelpfully) unanswered as well.
Also, the other topic you posted was about mail forwarding and not sending at all
Incorrect. Everything I posted has been about receiving via Email Routing and sending & reply using the custom domain.

Thank you. This is actually useful. But discussing limitations of a current CF service and how to work around it is not off-topic–that’s the point of a forum and what makes it useful.
Right, but it was not about forwarding emails, but about sending emails.
Then please explain where the thread in question mentioned sending emails even just once → https://community.cloudflare.com/t/my-experience-of-email-routing/537460
That thread was actually on-topic as it was about Cloudflare’s forwarding service.
Thats’ only my frustrated response after you closed 3 threads where others had the same question as me I wrote with helpful instructiosn to them.
Edit: which you moved into this thread to hide it apparently How to set up DKIM - #4 by silo what in the world
Please change your north star of what’s “off topic”:
Discussing limitations of a current CF service and how to work around it is not off-topic–that’s the point of a forum and what makes it useful. When you see many open topics on the same thing, it’s because we as the users are trying to figure something out. When someone responds with clear instructions to help them, be grateful for that, don’t inhibit the discussion. If you want to go above and beyond, try responding helpfully when you see users having the same question and consider pinning the thread. Then you could be an asset here as a mod, but this has been beyond frustrating.
