I’m new to web hosting and domains, and I’m currently hosting a domain, smilesthetics.gr, at Hostinger for a dentistry clinic. The website is still under construction, so the link might not show anything yet.
I plan to self-host a subdomain, patients.smilesthetics.gr, for a patient management system. Since I have a dynamic IP address at home, I would like to use Cloudflare for DNS management, which would allow me to automatically update the A record whenever my IP changes.
My main question is:
How can I transfer my domain’s DNS management to Cloudflare while continuing to host the website on Hostinger?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
The first thing would be to check with Hostinger that there is no requirement from their service that you use them as your authoritative DNS provider and that they are happy for you to move to a third-party DNS provider (eg. Cloudflare)
Ensuring that you point your DNS records to your Hostinger’s web server IP address.
When it comes to DNS there are three areas
Registrar - where you purchase the domain
Authoritative DNS - where you manage your DNS zone file
Hosting provider - where you host your actual website content.
These three ares are not mutually exclusive and do not need to be with the same providers, unless a provider requires you use their Authoritative nameservers in order to host on their service for example - but this is something to check with Hostinger.
