How to have non-let's encrypt universal certificate?

Hello,

Cloudflare’s “universal ssl” certificates are actually “let’s encrypt” certificate.
They do not work anymore with openssl < 1.0.2 and they do not work with some security tools ( sophos for example ) because of the path with the expired root.

Is it possible to have new “universal ssl” certificates with a non-let’s encrypt root? ( ie: without paying the extra for the “custom certificates” )
